How is abortion viewed in Buddhism?
Unquestionably, abortion violates the precept against killing, master
Xingyun (1927-) reasserts, and there is no fleeing whatsoever from
karmic retribution, but, if fetal abnormality confirmed and if the
mother consenting to bear the retribution for killing, final decision
is hers and hers alone, and no one else can rightfully intervene
(Fu Chiying: Chapter 11, Dharma should not be separated from
worldly awakening, The Biography of Venerable Master Xingyun:
Handing Down the Light, p.240).
