Why are women often portrayed as weak in the sutras?

Sakyamuni Buddha in his lifetime did express for a fact that women

are subjected to weaknesses: inconveniences during menstrual periods,

burdens during pregnancy, pains during childbirth, duties during childrearing,

physical fragility compared to men, and socio-economical

inferiority through the ages. The Buddha expounded that such phenomena

have stemmed from all living beings themselves, whose past

lifetimes abound in karmic hindrances resulting in like retributions.

Although the times are a-changing, society revolving, and genders

being on a par with each other in status, women have much more

to deal with biologically.
