Is everybody eligible for rebirth in the Pureland of Amitabha Buddha?

Positive. All of us are eligible seekers for rebirth in the Pureland of

Amitabha Buddha, who expressly initiated the 18th, 19th and 20th of

48 great vows in reception of all living beings engaged in remembrance

of the Buddha, as follows:

The 18th vow: ' If when I realize the supreme bodhi, those sentients

in the rest of the Buddhalands, on having heard my name, transfer all

good roots and every thought toward rebirth in my domain to the extent

of ten thoughts of remembrance, and if no rebirth transpiring, no bodhi

will be sought. All except for those having committed unintermitted evil

karma or denigrated the right Dharma and the saints.'

The 19th vow: ' If I attain Buddhahood, the living beings from other

lands initiate the bodhi mind and induct pure thought toward my

domain whilst transferring good roots as they vow for rebirth in (land of)

ultimate joy. Any such person nearing the end of a lifetime, myself and

all bhiksus manifest before him, and if not happening as is, no perfect

enlightenment will be sought.'

The 20th vow: ' If I attain Buddhahood, all living beings in immeasurable

domains, on hearing my name, transfer own good roots toward (land of)

ultimate joy, and if no rebirth transpiring, no bodhi will be sought.'
