Is everyone eligible for the Buddhist ceremonial conferment of precepts? Is an individual of uncouth behavior and inflammable temper eligible for preceptive reception?

Everyone with sincerity in the right faith and having initiated the bodhi

mind is eligible in reception of the precepts and may seek to participate

in the ceremonial conferment.

Preceptive reception is abidance by the vinaya for self-control, for

prohibition against things that should not be done. Preceptive reception

is therefore behavioral discipline. Receiving the precepts in right faith

and subsequent abidance with sincerity can certainly turn uncouth

behavior and inflammable temper into civility and moderation.
